Biography
Dr. Alexis Battista’s work brings together nearly 30 years of experience in the healthcare field. This includes almost 20 years of experience as a Paramedic and more than 15 years designing and integrating healthcare simulation in hospital-based and academic settings. In addition to employing simulations for education and training, she has extensive experience designing simulation programs to address patient safety initiatives (e.g., central line-associated bloodstream infection reduction, shoulder dystocia management, pre-surgical rehearsal), interprofessional team training, and the evaluation of healthcare systems performance.
Dr. Battista draws on her educational and work experiences to teach graduate research methods courses (i.e., mixed methods, qualitative) and workshops in healthcare simulation. As a research and practicum advisor, she supports students who focus on simulation-based learning or conduct research using qualitative or mixed-methods designs. Dr. Battista possesses experience with visual methods (e.g., video analysis), thematic, content, and causal analysis, systematic reviews, and secondary data analysis (e.g., discovery and analysis of previously collected data).
