Biography

Carolyn Sullivan Burklow, MD, FAAP, COL (ret), is a pediatric gastroenterologist at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and Associate Program Director for the National Capital Consortium Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology & Nutrition Fellowship. A graduate of Washington University School of Medicine, she completed her pediatrics residency and pediatric gastroenterology fellowship at Walter Reed. Over nearly three decades as a clinician‑educator, she has trained more than 30 pediatric gastroenterology fellows as well as pediatric residents and medical students, and she has been recognized with honors including the Master Clinician Award, the Order of Military Medical Merit, and the Army Surgeon General’s “A” Proficiency Designator. Dr. Burklow is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the Uniformed Services University and an active member of NASPGHAN, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the Uniformed Services Pediatric community. Her clinical and scholarly work focuses on functional constipation, eosinophilic esophagitis, inflammatory bowel disease, and pediatric nutrition, with a longstanding commitment to advancing military and academic pediatric subspecialty education.
