LTC(R) Christopher J. Colombo, MD, MA, FCCM, FACP retired after 20 yrs of active duty
service in the army. His final duty position was as Chief of the Department of Virtual Health and
TeleCritical Care at Madigan Army Medical Center, following serving as the Regional Health
Command Atlantic special projects officer for operational virtual health. He has transitioned to
civilian employment in several roles. These include critical care physician, executive coach and
industry consultant for health technology r&d firms and Principal Investigator of several million
dollars in federal research funds investigating the impact of telemedicine and simulation
technology in austere, operational environments. His prior funded research included the study of
how these environments connect and integrate with traditional hospital based virtual health, and
graduate medical education training. He also served as PI on one of the final 4 teams creating a
National Emergency TeleCritical Care Network (NETCCN) for COVID19 and disaster response,
was the MAMC site PI for the ACTT trials, and was a curriculum developer and instructor of
critical care courses both for the Society of Critical Care Medicine and in support of African
partner nations. While deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom LTC Colombo was
Chief of Critical Care for the 10 th Combat Support Hospital and the Theater Consultant for
Critical Care. He served as Consultant to the Army Surgeon General and Army representative to
the Defense Health Agency for Life Support. Previous assignments include Chief of Critical
Care Medicine, and Internal Medicine Residency Program Director Eisenhower Army Medical
Center, and Critical Care Medicine Fellowship Associate Program Director at the National
Capital Consortium. He attended Bard College at Simon’s Rock (BA 95 & 96), State University
of New York at Buffalo (MA in 98), EVMS (MD ’02), internal medicine residency Eisenhower
Army Medical Center (’06), and critical care medicine fellowship Walter Reed (’08). He is the
recipient of the Army Chapter of the ACP COL William Crosby Superiority in Research Award,
The BG George J. Brown Mentor’s Cube Award, The Army Surgeon General’s A-designator,
and inducted into the Order of Military Medical Merit (O2M3) in April of 2022. His military
awards include the Legion of Merit, and Bronze Star Medal for Service.
