Biography

Dr. Fentanes is a cardiologist on Active Duty at Brooke Army Medical Center.

He is the Director of Cardiac Imaging and Cardiovascular Research and Co-
Director of Echocardiography. As a cardiologist, he provides care for adults in

general cardiology, preventive cardiology, and valvular disease. He also
provides comprehensive cardiovascular imaging care through the performance
and interpretation of cardiovascular CT, cardiac MRI, transthoracic
echocardiography and transesophageal echocardiography to include structural
echocardiography.
As a complement to his clinical interests, Dr. Fentanes is involved in
cardiovascular disease research with a focus on preventive cardiology,

cardiovascular imaging, and the impact of cardiovascular disease on active-
duty service members and tactical athletes. He holds an appointment in the

Department of Medicine as an associate professor of medicine at the
Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. He is also a core
faculty of the Adult Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship program in the San
Antonio Health Education Consortium, where he is involved in medical student,
resident, and fellow education.
Dr. Fentanes is a graduate of the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of
Medicine 6-year BA-MD program. He completed an internship and internal
medicine residency at Tripler Army Medical Center, Honolulu, HI, an adult
cardiovascular disease fellowship at Brooke Army Medical Center, SA, TX, and
an Advanced Cardiovascular Imaging Fellowship at Brigham and Women's
Hospital/Harvard Medical School in Boston MA. He is Board Certified in
Internal Medicine, Adult Cardiovascular Disease, Adult Comprehensive
Echocardiography, Cardiovascular CT, and Cardiovascular Magnetic
Resonance.
He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, a Fellow of the Society
of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography, a Member of the American Society
of Echocardiography, and a Member of the Society of Cardiac MRI. He serves
in the American College of Cardiology imaging section leadership council, the
federal section leadership council, and the Society of Cardiovascular
Computed Tomography education committee.
