Biography

Erika O’Neil is a pediatric and adult Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) intensivist in San Antonio, Texas. She is currently the Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) Adult ECMO Medical Director. Dr. O’Neil is also a member of the United States Air Force Critical Care Air Transport team, transporting critically-ill and ECMO patients world-wide.

 

Before returning to the Air Force, she served as a pediatric intensivist and faculty for the Adult Congenital Heart Disease program at Texas Children’s Hospital (TCH).   She completed her Pediatric Critical Care Medicine fellowship and ECMO fellowship with Baylor College of Medicine at TCH and Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas.

 

Her clinical and research interests include ECMO and acute kidney injury. She has over 30 peer-reviewed publications, multiple book chapters, and has presented at local, national and international meetings on the topic of ECMO. She serves on the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO) scientific oversight committee and is an ELSO Guidelines subcommittee member.
