Biography
Dr. Helena B. Pasieka is the Director of Dermatology in the Department of Medicine at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland, and an Adjunct Associate Professor of Dermatology at Georgetown University School of Medicine. Board-certified in both Dermatology and Internal Medicine, she received her MD from the University of Washington and completed residencies both in Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan, and Dermatology at Johns Hopkins. A medicine hospitalist and specialist in Complex Medical Dermatology, Dr. Pasieka's clinical work includes as a Staff Dermatologist at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, and serving as a Dermatology Hospitalist Consultant for the MedStar/Georgetown hospitals, where she developed and directed the Inpatient and Consultative Dermatology service between 2015- 2020. She has published with multidisciplinary colleagues in both The Burn Center at Washington Hospital Center, as well as the Transplant and Limb Salvage Centers at Georgetown in Washington D.C. Her research, supported by a Dermatology Foundation Medical Dermatology Career Development Award, focuses on severe and life-threatening skin diseases, particularly severe adverse cutaneous reactions (SCARs) to drugs and vaccines, such as Stevens-Johnson Syndrome/Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis and other reactions that result in epithelial necrosis. In addition to her investigative work on SCARs, her lab’s current work includes understanding mechanisms of multimodal and/or multifactorial skin injury and wound healing. She is board-certified in both Dermatology and Internal Medicine.
