Research interests
Dr. Jangho Yoon is a Professor and Vice Chair for Research in the Department of Preventive Medicine and Biostatistics (PMB). He also serves as the Director of the Military Health Economics and Policy Research Laboratory within PMB. Dr. Yoon received a PhD in Health Policy and Administration from the Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill (UNC), as well as doctoral training in Health Economics from UNC and Duke University. Upon completing his doctoral studies, Dr. Yoon was selected as a National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) T32 Post-doctoral Scholar of Mental Health Economics and completed his post-doctoral training in mental health economics at the University of California, Berkeley (2007-2009). As a seasoned health economist, applied econometrician, and health systems and policy researcher, Dr. Yoon focuses his research on mental health policy and economics, value-based health insurance designs, and health care delivery innovation. As a methodologist, Dr. Yoon has a strong background in economic analysis and health econometrics such as quasi-experimental analysis, causal inference, big data analytics, record linkage, analysis of complex survey and health care claims data, and cost-effectiveness analysis. As a passionate educator and graduate mentor, Dr. Yoon has directed >20 doctoral dissertations and >40 master's projects, providing rigorous research training for graduate students in health policy, healthcare management, health services research, public health, applied economics, and public policy. He has delivered courses on U.S. health policy, health economics, quantitative research methods, applied health econometrics, cost-effectiveness analysis, and econometric evaluation of health care policies and programs. Throughout his career, Dr. Yoon has provided service and leadership for numerous international, national, and regional organizations and professional communities, including, among others, World Health Organization in Geneva, Korean Society of Health Policy and Administration, Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs, AcademyHealth, American Society of Health Economists, and American Public Health Association.
