Dr. Jeff LaRochelle received his MD degree from the Uniformed Services University in Bethesda,
Maryland and completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio,
Texas. He returned to the Uniformed Services University as the Director of the Clinical Skills and
Integrated Clinical Reasoning courses where he served as an active-duty physician in the Air Force for 14
years before transitioning to the Air Force Reserves in 2017. He retired as a Colonel in 2024 with over
25 years of service.
During his time as a faculty member at the Uniformed Services University, Dr. LaRochelle obtained his
Masters in Public Health, and held a variety of leadership positions to include serving as an Associate
Program Director for the Army and Navy Internal Medicine National Capital Consortium residency
program as well as the Assistant Chief of the Internal Medicine Clinic and Director of Predictive Analytics
at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
Dr. LaRochelle is nationally recognized in the areas of clinical reasoning development, assessment,
evaluation, and the application of educational theory to medical education. He has over 50 peer-
reviewed manuscripts and serves in leadership roles shaping the national conversation and direction of
medical education on the National Board of Medical Examiners, the Association of Academic Internal
Medicine, and the Alliance of Clerkship Educators.
Dr. LaRochelle has been with the University of Central Florida College of Medicine since 2017 and is
currently a tenured professor in the Department of Medical Education serving as the Associate Dean for
Academic Affairs. In addition to his academic leadership role, he is involved in medical education
research centered around the development of clinical reasoning and maintains an active role in teaching
medical students across the entire curriculum.
