Biography
Karla Elizabeth Adams, MD, FAAAAI, FACAAI, FAAP is a Professor of Pediatrics at the Uniformed Services University. She serves as Program Director of the Allergy and Immunology Fellowship at the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium and practices clinically at Wilford Hall Ambulatory Surgical Center.
Dr. Adams is a board-certified Allergist Immunologist with clinical expertise in insect venom allergy and immunotherapy, anaphylaxis, asthma, adverse reactions to vaccines and biologics, food allergy, and mast cell disorders. Her scholarly work focuses on improving diagnostic accuracy and management of venom allergy, optimizing epinephrine prescribing practices, evaluating vaccine safety in special populations, and addressing allergy-related considerations in military accession, retention, and deployment.
She holds national leadership roles within the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology and the American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, including service on executive committees and the Board of Regents, and currently co-chairs the national Insect Allergy Practice Parameter update. Dr. Adams is actively engaged in undergraduate, graduate, and continuing medical education and is committed to mentorship, physician leadership development, and advancing evidence-based allergy care within the Military Health System.
