Biography
After completing a Bachelor of Science in Zoology at Duke Univeristy, Dr. Mann was commissioned into the US Navy and begain medical studies at Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in 1992. He graduated in 1996 and proceeded to the Naval Medical Center in San Diego where he completed a basic surgery internship. After finishing his internship, Dr. Mann served for two years as the Battalion Surgeon for the 1st Combat Engineer Battalion at Camp Pendleton, California.
He returned to the Naval Medical Center, San Diego in 1999 to complete his general surgery residency. Dr. Mann's surgical carreer officially began in 2003 with his assignment as Ships Surgeon aboard USS Enterprise CVN 65, where he completed a deployment to the Persian Gulf. The following year he was stationed at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth where he remained for the rest of his military carreer.
During his time at Portsmouth, Dr. Mann completed two deployments with USMC role 2 units and participated in multiple missions on the USNS Comfort. His clinical practice focused on general and bariatric surgery. After 30 years of service, Dr. Mann retired from the Navy in 2022. He currenly serves as the USUHS surgical clerkship director at Portsmouth Naval Medical Center anc continues practice in general and bariatric surgery
