Biography
Colonel Luis Rohena is the Chief Medical Officer of the Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC), and the San Antonio Military Health System (SAMHS) where he is a member of BAMC’s senior leadership team responsible for leading the Department of War’s largest Medical Center with over 1600 privileged and 2600 non-privileged providers (over 8000 total employees). As the SAMHS CMO, COL Rohena is on the Executive Board of the Bexar County Medical Society representing military medical interests, and coordinates with outlying military treatment facilities to facilitate alignment in healthcare delivery across SAMHS. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium (SAUSHEC). SAUSHEC is the Department of War’s largest graduate health professions education platform, hosting over 700 U.S. military officers in 36 physician Graduate Medical Education (GME) and 22 Graduate Allied Health Education (GAHE) specialty programs.
SAMHS is responsible for providing oversight of clinical, educational, and business operations for all military treatment facilities in the San Antonio area. SAMHS provides oversight for the healthcare delivery to more than 240,000 Department of War beneficiaries in the San Antonio metropolitan region. Healthcare services are provided by Brooke Army Medical Center, Wilford Hall Ambulatory Surgical Center, 19 primary care clinics, and more than 100 specialty services. The health system employs 12,000 military and civilian employees with a combined budget of over $1.2 billion annually.
