Personal profile

Biography

I am a Professor of Pediatrics and Pediatric Infectious Diseases and have a clinical appointment at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. My research interests center on clinical pediatric infectious diseases and pediatric infectious diseases epidemiology. Early work involved respiratory viral infections in children and military families. Additionally, I researched early incidences of community-associated Methicillin Resistant Staph aureus (CA-MRSA). Most recently, I have been studying the impact that COVID-19 has had on the health and care delivered to children and families in the military health system.

I was previously an Active Duty Colonel in the USAF. I have served as the Consultant to the USAF Surgeon General for Pediatric Infectious Diseases. I was also the Program Director for the military's only training program in Pediatric Infectious Diseases at the Uniformed Services University. I have been active in leadership roles in the Armed Forces Infectious Diseases Society, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) (Section on Uniformed Services), and the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society (PIDS). I am a fellow of the AAP, PIDS and the Infectious Diseases Society of America.
