Research interests

Dr. Aronson's laboratory conducts translational research to better understand the risk of the parasitic infection leishmaniasis and to improve leishmaniasis treatment to deployed US military personnel. We are currently investigating novel treatments in a mouse model that may be translated to early human use as next steps. Additionally, we study the host immune response to Leishmania infection in both mice and man.

Our group also conducts clinical trials and is standing up a 2000 person RCT of BCG vaccine to prevent respiratory infection in high risk travelers, partnering with global health programs across the United States.
