Biography
LTC Nate Copeland is an Infectious Disease physician and academic leader who currently serves as the Chief of the 8th Floor Multispecialty Clinic at the Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center (DDEAMC). He is also an Associate Professor of Medicine and the Deputy Director of the Infectious Disease Division at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS). In addition to his clinical and academic roles, Dr. Copeland is a core faculty member and ombudsman for the Internal Medicine Residency at DDEAMC, where he plays a pivotal role in mentoring and developing future Army physicians. He further contributes to faculty development at USUHS as part of the FOCUS Faculty team.
Dr. Copeland’s prior assignments reflect his deep commitment to clinical research and global health. He has conducted research under the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research in Silver Spring, MD, and Kisumu, Kenya, focusing on topics such as HIV and malaria. At Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC), he served as the site principal investigator for several USUHS/Infectious Disease Research Program projects, including an interventional trial aimed at reducing traveler’s diarrhea. His expertise in clinical research and medical acquisitions is recognized through his 8H/8X/8Z skill identifiers, and he has been awarded the “A” proficiency designation for excellence in clinical and academic medicine.
LTC Copeland holds a Master of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene from USUHS and earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Illinois at Chicago through the U.S. Army Health Professions Scholarship Program. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at TAMC and his fellowship in Infectious Diseases at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. His distinguished career exemplifies a dedication to advancing military medicine, global health, and academic excellence.
