Biography

Dr. Waterman, is Professor and Chair of Medicine at the Uniformed Services University. She is an infectious disease clinician, researcher, and leader in the battle against antimicrobial resistant bacteria (AMR). Throughout her career as an Army infectious disease officer, Dr. Waterman worked across clinical, R&D, and policy settings to curb rising drug resistance through surveillance and early detection of emerging pathogens.  She is a proponent for using biotechnology and big data to promote, protect, and respond to various disease threats.  She is currently wading into the field of wastewater surveillance as a leading indicator of disease transmission.
