Biography

Dr. Kapunan received received her Bachelors in Neuroscience from McGill University in Montreal, Canada. She attended Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, MA as an Army Health Professions Scholarship Program recipient, graduating with Research Honors from the combined MD/MPH program. She served 2 years as a Doris Duke Clinical Research Fellow at Harvard Medical School, with a focus on child health services research. On entering active-duty service in 2006, Dr. Kapunan completed internship and residency training at the National Capital Consortium at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and pediatric subspecialty training in Adolescent Medicine at the San Antonio Health Education Consortium.

During her active duty-career, Dr. Kapunan served as Assistant Chief of Adolescent Medicine at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD, Medical Director of the U.S. Army Health Clinic Grafenwoehr in Germany, and Chief of Adolescent Medicine at San Antonio Military Medical Center. On entering the U.S. Army Reserves in 2018, she joined the Division of Adolescent Medicine at Children’s National Hospital in Washington, DC where she was Medical Director of the Adolescent Health Center. From 2022-2024, Dr. Kapunan served as Chief Medical Officer of the Montgomery County Public School System. In 2024, she began her current role as Adolescent Medicine Curriculum Director in the Primary Care Track of the Pediatric Residency Program at Children’s National.

Dr. Kapunan’s academic interests include child health policy, school health, adolescents with chronic or complex health care needs, and youth health advocacy.
