Biography

Dr. Robert Browning began his career in the Navy in 1988 when he was commissioned as a Navy officer after completing 4 years as an NROTC midshipman and graduating from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, N.C. with a degree in psychology. He graduated Navy flight school in 1989 and served as a Naval Aviator until 1996. He transitioned to military medicine in 1996 at the Uniformed Services University, Bethesda MD where he graduated with a degree in medicine in 2000. After graduation, he trained in the disciplines of Internal medicine and Pulmonary/Critical Care medicine in the National Capital Region, which included the National Naval Medical Center and Walter Reed Army Medical Center. He pursued further additional and specialized training in Interventional Pulmonology with one of the most well known international experts in the discipline, Dr. Ko Pen Wang, Interventional Pulmonology, Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore MD as well as specific training in rigid bronchoscopy and jet ventilation with Dr. Heinrich Becker at the Thorax Clinic in Heidelberg, Germany. In 2006, Dr. Browning created the first DOD medical interventional pulmonology program serving the National Naval Medical Center and Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Dr. Browning served as the Chief of Pulmonary Medicine, Chief of Critical Care Medicine and Assistant Chief of Medicine. He currently serves as the Chief of Interventional Pulmonology at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. Dr. Browning is an active lung cancer researcher with several funded research protocols at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
