Dr. Robert Nee was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate from Lehigh University and an Alpha Omega Alpha graduate from Temple University Lewis Katz School of Medicine. As an awardee of the United States Air Force (USAF) Health Professions Scholarship, he completed his Internal Medicine Residency at the USAF Wilford Hall Medical Center followed by a joint Nephrology Fellowship at Wilford Hall Medical Center and University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He became Chief of Nephrology at Travis Air Force Base in California. After his active-duty service, he returned to military medicine as Key Clinical Faculty at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Dr. Nee has held academic clinical appointments at the University of California Davis School of Medicine and George Washington University School of Medicine. He is currently a Staff Nephrologist at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and a Professor of Medicine at the Uniformed Services University. He was the recipient of the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center 2022 Master Clinician Award for outstanding patient care and professionalism, significant contributions to the profession and impactful teaching. Dr. Nee has conducted outcomes research in the chronic kidney disease (CKD) and end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) populations using large registry and claim-based data, with particular focus on demographic and social determinants of health. He is the Co-Investigator of the Uniformed Services University/Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Chronic Kidney Disease Surveillance Program. He is the study site Principal Investigator and Associate Investigator of clinical trials sponsored by AstraZeneca. He has had multiple peer-reviewed publications in journals to include JASN, CJASN, NDT, AJKD, Transplantation, and JAMA Network Open. He has served in the NIDDK’s External Expert Panel for the United States Renal Data System (USRDS), the CDC-Kidney Disease Surveillance System Advisory Group and Steering Committee, and the Medical Advisory Board of the National Kidney Foundation in the National Capital Area. He is a member of the Kidney Interagency Coordinating Committee, NIDDK and the Academy of Medicine of Washington, District of Columbia.
