Biography

Dr. Sami Abuhamdeh is an Assistant Professor of Health Professions Education in the School of Medicine at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, as well as Research Data Analyst and Manager for the Long Term Career Outcome Study (LTCOS) at CHPE . He received his PhD in psychology from the University of Chicago, where he was mentored by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, co-founder of the field of positive psychology. He then spent several years working abroad, first at the American University in Cairo, then at Istanbul Sehir University. His primary area of research is intrinsic motivation – the motivation to engage in an activity for the fun of it, rather than for reasons extrinsic to the activity (e.g. money, prestige). Currently, as a member of the LTCOS team, his work examines factors that impact the motivation, well-being, and achievement of students and professionals in the medical sciences.
