Biography

Thomas Darling, MD PhD, is Professor, Dermatology Division, Department of Medicine at the Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, MD. Tom received his MD and PhD degrees from Duke University. He completed medicine internship at UNC Hospitals, dermatology residency at Duke University, and a research fellowship in the Dermatology Branch, National Cancer Institute, NIH, before joining the faculty at USU in 1999. His laboratory studies hamartoma syndromes and skin regeneration. They were the first to demonstrate human hair follicle neogenesis in dermal epidermal composites. Ongoing studies are aimed at developing a next generation skin substitute that regenerates normal skin structures vital for function and appearance.
