ROLE OF MICRORNAS IN MILD TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY (TBI) AND POSTTRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER (PTSD): IDENTIFICATION OF BIOMARKERS AND THERAPEUTIC TARGETS

Project Details

Description

In our previous studies, we have identified miRNA biomarkers for TBI using several animal models such as closed head injury model, controlled cortical impact injury and blast overpressure injury model (details outlined in original SOW). The overall goal of the current study is to identify specific miRNA biomarkers for human TBI and PTSD using clinical samples from both military and civilian cases of TBI and PTSD. The original principal investigator on this project, Dr. Radha K Maheshwari suddenly passed away in February 2016. Since then, Dr. Barbara Knollmann-Ritschel, CAPT, MC, USN has assumed the responsibility of this project as the principal investigator. Despite the loss of the original principal investigator, the laboratory has made substantial progress to achieve the milestones of the project. So far, two manuscripts have been published, one patent has been filed and the pending patent has been licensed. In this revised SOW, we have outlined our revised research plans and timelines to successfully complete the aims of the project.
