Abstract

A rapid, facile, and reproducible preparation of monolayers on silicon oxide surfaces using neat, heated dimethylmonofunctional silanes is presented. In the case of a solid silane, enough material is placed on the surface so that upon heating its melt completely covers the surface. The surface and silane are heated for 10 min in an oven at 60-120°C. Excess reagent is finally removed, and the surfaces are characterized with X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, spectroscopic ellipsometry, and wetting.
