Abstract

After outlining the history of and current accepted standards for terminology and reporting dosing standards, this chapter summarizes photobiomodulation mechanisms of action. This includes light interaction with several common photoacceptors and cell signaling molecules, as well as PBMT effects at the molecular, organelle, cellular, and system level. At this system level, the chapter reviews impacts on inflammation, nerve and spinal cord injury, and pain.
