Abstract

This is the concluding chapter of the book, which provides a bridge between theory and practice, which ultimately could improve the care of patients. The chapters in the book have been drawn from the contemporary education literature on healthcare professions, and from several other fields including education, expertise, psychology and sociology, to name a few. All the chapters bring not just a topic area but also a number of different ways of studying that topic to the reader, thus illustrating that there is more than one way to build a programme of research. Given that educational research in healthcare professions is inherently interdisciplinary, the book provides a number of examples of collaborative working across scientists, social scientists and clinicians from around the globe, the time is right to further diversify the perspectives brought to research questions in the field.
