Abstract

This chapter is written by recent graduates of doctor of nursing practice (DNP) programs across the country and contains their stories in their own voices of the DNP project experience. The stories include: family nurse practitioner (NP) seeks to better identify and counsel vaccine hesitant parents; caregiver asthma knowledge and children’s asthma control: challenges encountered; adult gerontology acute care NP seeks to improve performance with anticoagulation management; psychiatric mental health NP tackles policy redesign to improve outcomes for patients dually diagnosed; and the development of an NP post-stroke depression screening at 2 and 4 weeks postdischarge. They share how they came to develop their burning question into a project and some of the challenges and opportunities they met along the path. Their stories will help DNP students to be mindful of the issues and challenges in carrying out their scholarship and can be a lesson to practicing DNPs as well.
