Abstract

UBS and SIS were used as a scaffold for the repair of the right ventricular free wall and right ventricular outflow tract in a porcine animal model. Surgically-created, full-thickness defects in the right ventricle, were repaired with a single layer sheet of UBS or SIS. Animals were sacrificed at periods of time ranging from 6 weeks to 5 months post surgery. In vitro contractility tests showed that the remodeled tissue could generate contractile forces up to 70% of that produced by native myocardium.
