Extracellular measurement of acetylcholine receptor function in microcircuit-coupled myoblasts

Abstract

An electrophysiological measurement principle for long-term, non-invasive monitoring of acetylcholine receptor function is described. Measurements depend on the ability to record agonist-induced depolarizations of clonal myoblasts that form high impedance seals with extracellular microcircuit electrodes. The extracellular potentials are shown to be completely eliminated by abungarotoxin. The technique appears promising for a variety of non-invasive electrophysiological biosensing applications.
