Abstract

Gastritis is a histologic diagnosis made via biopsy of gastric mucosa with notable gastropathy on endoscopic findings. The differential diagnosis is broad to include nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug-induced gastropathy as well as Helicobacter pylori infection. Given its role in causing peptic ulcer disease, iron-deficient anemia, and gastric cancer, H. pylori infection should be treated. Multiple antimicrobial agents with a proton pump inhibitor are needed for successful treatment and eradication of H. pylori infection should always be confirmed.
