Abstract

Pediatricians and other primary care providers working with children, adolescents, and their families are often at the forefront of cancer prevention. In addition to providing education and counseling about the cancer risks of tobacco and alcohol use and excessive ultraviolet ray exposure from the sun and artificial sources, new data are emerging about health threats caused by being overweight and obese, including cancer. With this in mind, early intervention for cancer prevention via modification to children’s diets, weights, and physical activity levels are increasingly becoming part of the national dialogue about obesity. 1.
