Abstract

This case study, from a standing Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Division Director, and former Rear Admiral in the United States Public Health Service and Major in the US Army, illustrates the role of this author's military leadership experience in addressing public health priorities. Population health, epidemiology, health promotion, and leadership training are part of the curriculum in military residency training programs with experiences of emergency response and global health. This case example has implications for non-traditional routes of leadership as growth opportunities, particularly for women and minorities.
