Abstract

Medical device professionals are exposed to numerous situations throughout their careers that require familiarity with various legal concepts. This chapter introduces various situations and transactions in which medical device professionals typically will have the opportunity to exercise judgment regarding legal matters, including employment agreements, confidentiality agreements, intellectual property and management of inventions, contract negotiation and drafting, sponsored research and license agreements, and litigation support. The authors provide a foundation and framework for how to approach and evaluate such situations, and offer guidance for how medical device professionals can partner with attorneys to optimize outcomes.
