Program and Center Accreditation

The use of simulation in healthcare education has increased exponentially in the past decade. As a result, more and more professional organizations are developing or implementing processes focused on defining and implementing best practices in simulation-based education. Such processes are quite resource intensive, and it is unclear at this time whether the cost-benefit ration for such efforts is favorable. In this chapter, we review the four primary accreditation efforts currently underway. In addition, we attempt to provide a comparative analysis of these programs that does not focus on strengths and weaknesses but rather how each program is designed to uniquely meet the needs of the parent organization’s mission.
