Psychological and Behavioral Impact of Disasters in the Time of COVID-19

Research output: Contribution to journalComment/debate

Abstract

Dr. Morganstein addresses public response to disasters including the COVID-19 pandemic. Psychological and behavioral impacts of disasters must be addressed, and any resulting psychiatric conditions must be treated. Normalizing rather than pathologizing often-transient distress and encouraging the use of healthy outlets for coping are parts of psychological First Aid. Communication is a key tool in mitigating anxiety.
