Abstract

Mood and thought disturbances typical of an acute schizophrenic episode occurred in a psychiatrically normal person during administration of propranolol in doses of 80 to 160 mg per day. Symptoms seemed to escalate with each increase in dosage. Hallucinations in an otherwise clear sensorium in a person not chronically psychotic are the only feature suggestive of toxic-organic psychosis, a feature of potential value in differential diagnosis of similar cases.
