Abstract

To address the need to educate medical personnel on the use of remote sensing techniques and geographical information systems (GIS) for studying public health problems, a Center of Excellence in Remote Sensing was established at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. The Center was established through a grant from NASA and offers a formal graduate course. The course emphasizes the use of remote sensing and GIS as a tool applied to better understand infectious diseases and environmental health interactions.
