Abstract

Finding biomarkers of early stage cancer would help save lives, but commonly used gel electrophoresis techniques are laborious and far from flawless. Haleem J. Issaq, Thomas P. Conrads, DaRue A. Prieto, Radhakrishna Tirumalai, and Timothy D. Veenstra from the National Cancer Institute describe the benefits of surface-enhanced laser desorption/ionization, a technique that has attributes in common with MALDI.
