Abstract

Kluyvera, an organism in the family Enterobacteriaceae, is considered an infrequent opportunistic pathogen. Although most infections involve the genitourinary and gastrointestinal tracts, orthopedic infections requiring extensive surgical debridement have been reported. Optimal management includes appropriate surgical care coupled with antibiotic therapy, namely, third-generation cephalosporins, fluoroquinolones, and aminoglycosides based on reported susceptibility patterns. Clinicians must be aware of the potential severity of orthopedic infections due to Kluyvera species and, in turn, be vigilant in immediately initiating appropriate surgical and antibiotic therapy. We present the first reported case of Kluyvera septic arthritis after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction.
