Abstract
A collection of new techniques for image smoothing is documented, and examples are given of their performance. The techniques involve averaging over half-neighborhoods, weighted averaging, and averaging based on local property probabilities. A few of the methods seem to work extremely well; but the weighted averaging schemes do little noise cleaning, while the probability schemes do not preserve edges sharply.
