Abstract
One of the allures of the military surgeon career is overseas assignments. However, knowing how to prioritize remaining clinically relevant, academically minded, and engaged within professional societies can be challenging during such assignments. To balance the needs of the military that requires these strategic locations to remain active with the retention of our own professional discipline will be discussed herein to convey considerations for a successful practice outside the continental United States (OCONUS).
