Abstract

The transcriptional trans-activator E2 protein from bovine papillomavirus type 1 has been shown to bind to the DNA consensus sequence ACCN₆GGT. We have produced the DNA-binding domain of the E2 protein as a recombinant protein in Escherichia coli. The E2 DNA-binding domain was purified as two different molecular weight forms. Using these purified proteins, we show that two molecules of the E2 protein bind to a single DNA consensus binding site.
