The CPDR is a Department of Defense (DoD), multi-site program within the School of Medicine, Department of Surgery, at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS), Bethesda, MD, with its primary clinical program located at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, D.C. and a scientific laboratory in Rockville, MD. As mentioned, the CPDR was created to address the increasing rate of occurrence of prostate cancer. It is comprehensive in that it integrates basic and clinical science programs to achieve significant goals in developing promising new detection and treatment techniques for prostate cancer. The CPDR congressionally funded program is administered by the Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HMJ). The CPDR is affiliated with several major military medical centers, Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle, WA, and the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology (AFIP) in Washington, D.C. ( Fig. 1 ).
