Abstract

Domoic acid is a tricarboxylic amino acid well-known in the traditional Japanese pharmacopeia for its antihelmintic properties (Daigo 1959, Takemoto and Daigo 1960), see Fig. 1. The traditional source of domoic acid has been the seaweed Chondria armata, and until 1987, when it was identifi ed as the agent responsible for the Amnesic Shellfi sh Poisoning that occurred Authors’ affiliations given at the end of the chapter.
