Training Issues in Pediatric Psychology

As interest in integrated behavioral health in pediatric primary care grows, there is emerging recognition of a training gap for working both within this population and setting. This chapter begins with a review of the American Psychological Association's Competencies for Practice in Primary Care, with a focus on pediatric adaptations. Next, the authors review existing training programs in pediatric primary care as well as some examples of more generalized primary care training. Challenges associated with training models and future directions are discussed. The chapter concludes with practical recommendations for both clinicians and programs looking to establish pediatric primary care services.
